Glayn Shark... anyone ever seen one before??

i just bought one of these silver rarities from a shop in Singapore...waiting for shipment, was wondering if anyone's had any experience with them... i know they make an aluminum model, but this one is wood, with a built in distortion....and the headstock has a strap on it, its not solid.... thanks, marty

I have a 1997 catalog from the Metal Driver brand, made by the Katoh Musical Instrument company, which includes the Glaynes.. Yours looks like the Shark-586 model, solid alder body, 22 frets, 25 1/2 inch scale, GLS-Cst single coil x 2 and GLH-CST humbucking p`ups, 1 volume, 1 tone, 5 way switch, Gotoh Magnun Lock key tuners, Wilkinson VS-50 bridge, chrome hardware and came in one color, silver metallic. Retailed for 58,ooo minus the standard 20% off list here in Japan. There were 2 other aluminum models pictured, one was the RAZO Glayn and the Glayn-7236 with the alder body and metal top...the Razo didn`t have screws showing around the top while the 7236 did...maybe the Razo was an artist model and the 7236 was the production model. I have another 2000 catalog but theres no mention of built in distortion on that model.

thanks pete !!!that gives me me research points to start at.... its somewhere between singapore and here right now....i love japanese guitars...i have a sweet Daion power mark X, and quite a few others....mainly matsumokus.....i'll let y'all know how it acts when i get it.... marty

they are connected to Sound Garage...a company whose products I still see in shops locally. I`ve picked up my share of MIJs since being here, many newer guitars like the Seymour Duncans, navigator, Van Zandt, ESP, Crews among others...some older ones too but there are a LOT of people after the older stuff now, fortunately I got most of mine before that and living in a smaller Japanese city there are fewer folks after them here and I`ve lucked into real bargains, some have tripled in value since I got em, crazy... but there you are, had I only known years ago how things would have developed we`d have even less room in our apartment than we do now...and my wife wuld probably be making me sleep outside.
I always told her while I was buying...don`t worry...I think I can sell em for more that I paid, and so far, thats whats happened so maybe she believes me now.

heres another tidbit of info on the guitar...i noticed in the listing it said " Previously played by Dominic Miller"...so i went to his website and asked him if he remembered it. this morning i had an email from him, saying, that he used this very guitar on a tour with Sting in the 90s, and that it was a very good playing instrument, he just had others he plays more ( which i'm sure he does)...very nice email from a great guitarist....

i didnt win it....my guitar budget for the month was already spent, and it ended up going for 500 or so british pounds....maybe next time....
