My latest conquest!

I'm about to pick this up tomorrow.
Can't find much info on Commodore other than some Harmony reviews regarding different guitars, which seem quite promising...

Has made in Japan on the neck plate, hopefully it's not plywood body, the paint job tends to suggest it might be!

Has anyone got any info?

Thanks in advance

Looks like I found the ad for the guitar you just bought.

Commodore name was a brand name used by whatever distribution company imported the guitar from Japan. I can't find any info on that company, but they did not actually manufacture the guitar. The pickups and tailpiece are the same as those used on other brands of guitars, such as Aria and Univox, that were manufactured at the Matsumoku factory. Also,I'm pretty sure you'll find the body is solid wood, not ply. I have no doubt that your guitar was made by Matsumoku.

Edit - I found a picture of the Matsumoku made Aria Diamond version of the guitar. As you can see, they are basically the same.

Spud1950 has nailed it.

Your guitar is essentially an Aria 1532T built around 1971.

Here's a picture of the Aria 1532T on the Matsumoku Guitar Gallery site. Additional info says these were made from 1968-1975.

hey
You guys rule!
Spud, yes that ad on gumtree is the one i have agreed to buy.
I was unsure at first as to whether i would go through with the sale as i've recently bought some very poor "SO CALLED" quality japanese guitars, but this one looks to be genuine and the seller has agreed a good price.

I'll take some better pics when i've picked it up.

You guys are awesome, thanks!

Hey Dan.

I have an Aria 1832T that is essentially set up the same as the 1532T, just a different body shape. It's been a few years since I've played it but my recollection is that the neck profile is similar to a Strat and the pups are pretty bright and clean. I used it on the first GFS album when I wanted to chop some chords on the high end that would cut through the mix.

I'm satisfied with my purchase, a useful tool in the arsenal.

So Spud, does it count that I picked the approximate center of the production range 8)

well i got it!
seems to be sound, quality is better than i was expecting and managed to haggle a bit more off too, so very happy.

it could do with some new pickup covers, are these available anywhere?

Yes,those Matsumoko made Aria type guitars are very good quality. As to the pickup surrounds, they would only be available as a used item and it might be a very long, if ever, that you might run across any for sale.
