Hey guys, it's my first ever post here...I was just wondering if you could give me a hand in id'ing this guitar. From the bit I've found poking around on this site and a few others, I'm pretty sure it's a Kawai.

Also, is there any chance of finding repro's or original parts for these things? Or am I s.o.l? I'd like to get a pick guard, bridge piece and maybe an extra pick up cause one isn't working currently.

Thank's a bunch! Oh and sorry for the poor quality pictures...I'm no professional photographer, this much is for certain.

hey berger_4_

Your guitar looks like one I sold a couple of years ago. You can read my description here:

This general style of guitar is fairly common so a few months of watching eBay will probably get you the parts you need.

Good luck with the restoration, mine was a nice playing instrument.

Truth be told, I actually used that picture to identify that it was a Kawai haha. I might end up just getting a custom pick guard done for it and maybe just buying a new set of pickups.

I'd agree that it plays really nice. That hollow body gives it such a cool natural reverb...an amp just can't replicate it spot on as far as I'm concerned.

Don't write the pickup off as not working unless you've tested it with on a meter and know for sure that it's dead. The problem could be that the switch connected to it has gone bad. It's way more common for the switch to stop working then the pickup.

Spud is absolutely right. Oxidized switches and pots account for 95% of non functioning pups in these guitars. Another 3% is due to broken wiring so the actual pups are rarely to blame. Before seriously considering buying a pup, buy a can of Deoxit from your local electronics supplier. This guitar is easy since everthing you need to spray is under that metal control plate. Shoot Deoxit into the openings in the pot case and switches. If it doesn't work the first time, try again, some connections can be stubborn.

If it is the pup, I suggest replacing it with the same type from a parts guitar, many fewer headaches.

hope the Deoxit works.
