Exactly what kinda guitar is this????

got this guitar on a 100$ trade yrs ago - just tryin to figure out what kind it really is -- the red ripped off tag inside the hollow body says japan in the corner - and i think the last two letters visible end a word with " n d "

ps i know some work was done to keep it functioning ..........new neck or top part too - and i think moar was done to it

id love to know the name brand of this guitar and approx yr it was made
also maybe appox value if any thing can be determined

Wierd.The bigger pictures are now showing. Anyway,I can tell you that the guitar was made at the Matsumoku factory.They manufactured for many distribution companies,such as Aria, Bruno, Vantage and others.Yours appears to be same as the Aria branded 5000Tmade from 1970-1974, on this page,with some obvious modifications.





The original bridge pickup was re located to the middle position and another make of pickup was put in the bridge position. Can't be sure,but it looks like a DiMarzio. You can undo the screws on the pickup surround,pull the pickup out and see if says anything on the back that may identify it. Also, there's an added switch.I would guess maybe it was added to give additional pickup switching options because of the addition of the third pickup. Value wise,it's hard to say. If it was in really nice original condition, you can find them for around $300. The modifications actually hurt the value,and with neck problems, it isn't worth much much.

+1 to everything Spud says - Matsumoku, late 60s or early 70s, too bad about the mods & the label being removed. What are the neck problems? I'd say from what I can see from the pics, that neck's original to this guitar.

I dont' remember what my buddy said now............but ill ask him what he did to it today via phone call later! - i think he said he had to replace the neck? and he added one or two pickups - and maybe some knobs or the switches?? Yeah if it was originally decent it sucks it was altered - but it does sound GREAT too!! - so all n all was good news to me - atleast its a nice guitar:) and its got a lil history too and it is pretty old very cool - thanks guys
