old ibanez tele

ive had this guitar since about '90. i always wondered about its year of production and if it ever had any value. it also has a story to it. at that time, i had a girlfriend who lived and grew up in the boston area and used to hang out with aerosmith at their rehersal space in the early '80. Well one day Brad Whitford was playing this guitar and it wasnt working so he gave it to her. years later, she gave it to me. lucky me... It used to be transparent yellow and the pickguard was white. still the same pickguard, just painted black. The tuners had to be replaced and the pickups were dead. i realize that the value is gone the way it is, but it took a lot of work to make this one a player. huge bolts for the neck, jumbo frets, fender tex-mex pickups, 9 screws to hold down the bridge (which is sheet metal). i kept trying for 10 years to make it play well and it finally did. Im about to put it back to a tele set up after years of being one of my main workhorses. I was just wondering what year it may be from, and if it was original would it have any value.

Looks to me like your tele is a model 2352 built around 1976. It is missing the (fake) trussrod cover and the control plate has been flipped since the pickup switch was originally at the front.

If the guitar was in 98% Mint condition, the Blue Book suggests a value of $750. This value goes down to $300 in 60% Good condition

its always nice to know what you got. the control flip was my doing, i have a heavy right hand and i always hit the three way switch on a tele. always ending up in the bridge position. there are no screw holes where the fake truss rod cover should be and the truss rod adjustment is actually at the other end. so who knows. i had a hard time finding info on a timeline for the ibanez logo, i knew it was 70's somewhere, so thanks for pinpointing it. its probably at 35-40% original, but it screams.

well, theres one problem with the neck plate. the original screws were very thin and were stripped in the neck. the holes in the plate were abnormally small and to accommodate larger screws, and not to wreck the plate, i replaced it and put it someplace safe. well 10 years have gone by and so has the plate. i cant find it anywhere. oh well, at least i have a little info on it. ill never get rid of it anyway. not a huge fan of telecasters so its the one i have to go to when i want that sound.
