I have a chance to buy this Lyle. It was described to me as one of the very early models, if not a prototype, made by the Matsumoko factory under the guidance of Gibson techs. The electronics do not work, so I'm curious as to how this thing sounds.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hard to know how it sounds without hearing it. I have a friend with a similar guitar with the staple humbuckers. They sound OK. I doubt that Gibson techs had anything to do with the manufacture of a Matumoku guitar. The two switches on the upper bout look more like an attempt at copying a Gretsch than a Gibson.
