picked up a 1970's guitar on ebay with this information given:

"1970's Hollowbody that was made in Japan. We're not sure what kind of wood it's made from, but it displays some very unique flame. It's a great playing neck with great frets. It's all original and 100% complete. It has nicks + dings, some finish cracks, and other cosmetic wear. All electronics work and a nice hardshell case is included."

any help identifying the brand, model, age, or region would be great, although there's little to base anything off other than the shape until i have it.

i guess i couldn't resist the flametop for 260 bucks =p

thanks yall,
cadien

I'm with you spud, those non-continuous f holes and hardware sure look like Kawai to me.

I did find the trem unit on a 1972 National hollowbody listed in a Strum N Drum catalog. Of course in 1972 the National brand name was being used by Strum N Drum on Japanese imports likely coming from Kawai as well. I think this similarity allows us to date the mystery guitar to the early 70's.

Info I got on mine from this thread

http://vintaxe.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1864

"Your new guitar is a Greco and probably from the mid 1960's. It has the same pups and hardware as my 1966 GE-2 Solidbody and it has the same trem unit as the 1967 hollowbody model 920.

Unfortunately, my 1966 brochure only pictures solidbody guitars. However, there are three hollowbody guitars with short descriptions listed on the 66 pricelist. The description indicates bound f holes which your instrument doesn't have so I don't think it's 66.

So, given this evidence, I beginning to wonder if it is a 64-65. The Barney Kessel was introduced by Gibson in 1961 so the earlier date makes sense. I don't know about value. I paid $300 for my solidbody GE-2 a couple of years ago. You can see my guitar here:

http://www.vintaxe.com/boards/viewtopic ... ight=greco

Just a quick follow-up. A quick thumb through Bizarre Guitars indicates the faux f hole in your guitar is seen most frequently on 64-65 models

EDIT- the '68 catalog has one close mod # 920
