I've had this guitar since my grandfather gave it to me. I believe I was 6 or 7 at the time and I'm almost 20 now. I've found that it's a Barney Kessel Replica/lookalike. What I need to know about it though are these things:

1.) Where can I find replacement parts or parts that will fit this guitar. (pickups and trem)

2.) Where was it made?

3.) When was it made?

4.) If I use different parts will I decrease the value?

5.) What's it worth if it's in good shape?

Any help is appreciated. I plan on getting this working again as a memorial to my grandfather.

Here's an old thread about it.

In real nice original condition,I would say in todays market value is somewhere around $325 - $350. Of course some might be willing to pay a bit more, some a bit less. Finding original replacement parts for these type of Japanese guitars isn't altogether impossible, but can be very difficult. Using non original parts on more highly collectable guitars definitly hurts value, but with lower level guitars like this,it probably won't make much of difference. Is the guitar missing the pickups and trem? If the pickups are there and there's no sound,it's most usualy a case of a bad switch, pot,or output jack. Not impossible, but pickups don't usually just go dead.

That's in nice condition.Just needs a good cleaning.Interesting. A different pickup variation.Have you verified that those have dual coils,or are assuming it because they have two rows of pole pieces like a humbucker? This is the other one I was talking about, 1973 version of the same model.A bit different looking trem and the pickups appear to be standard humbucker sized, although they're probably actually single coils. A lot of these Japanese guitars had single coils made to look like humbuckers. If you had this version, you could most likey drop some humbuckers right in.

As to yours,I can't say what might be currently available that would fit right in. Like I said, your pickup may be repairable, but it's hard to say without seeing a picture of what's going on with it.

I'll break it out and snag a few pics of the bridge pup.

I just plugged it in and tapped a screwdriver on the pickups. Apparently, only the neck pickup is wired up.

I got the pics. I'm using the camera on my phone, so forgive the quality.

It's a single coil. One wire coil and one magnet. It's pretty broken, but someone who knows what they're doing might be able to repair it if the the coil wires can be soldered back on to the lead wires. Then glue the casing back together. It's interesting to see how that pickup is constructed.

Are you sure? It's constructed the same way as an old humbucker I took apart. Also, the magnet wasn't in those pics because I'm an idiot.

I've decided on low or vintage output pickups for this. Any suggestions? I think I can have pickup rings made for this as well.
