Violin body, scroll headstock 6-string, WHAT IS IT!?

I thought someone here might know what this strange guitar is. It's a violin body 6-string electric with scroll headstock, presumably 70's Japanese. I've never seen, nor can I find another one like it.

It was at one point modified with a different bridge and I believe the tuning gears were changed as well. They put a hole in the top and gave the lacquer a few good cracks as they swapped the bridge and I have no idea why they did. I was considering putting it up on eBay, thinking an auction starting at $500 was appropriate (if only for the wild and weird factor and thought someone here might be able to clue me in on what my crazy wall hanger is. If no one knows, that's fine too. I just thought maybe some 70's guitar aficionados might like to see it!

Well, I dunno. But let's see here...a zero fret and triple binding suggest quality. Too bad about the bridge. A good luthier who knows vintage guitars might recommend a better bridge. I wouldn't put it up for sale until I know what I've got... How's that action? Does it need a set-up? How's it play?

Be patient. Keep puttin the pictures out there and you may learn somethin surprising. You might decide to keep it, or perhaps sell it for a lot more in just a few years.
