Does Teisco still produce guitars?

I thought I saw that they did, but now I can't find any info on it.

I've got a short answer and a long answer. The short answer is no, Teisco guitars are not produced today. However, one of the original Teisco factories still operates today and still produces guitar hardware.

So here's the long answer based on what I have been able to piece together concerning Teisco history:

On January 9, 1967, Teisco was officially taken over by Kawai Instrument Manufacturing Inc. The former president of Teisco, Matsuda, remained in Teisco as a directing consultant. On January 21, 1967, Teisco Business Affairs was incorporated and placed its headquarters in Hamamatsu with Hashimoto as the director. Actual Teisco guitar assembly continued for a while in the Okegawa factory, but eventually got moved to the Enshu Kougei factory in Hamamatsu, the former Kawai Instrument factory. So, the Enshu factory became Teisco guitars’ main factory under the corporate name of Teisco String Instruments while Teisco's former Okegawa factory was taken over by Kawai Instrument’s and christened Teisco Industry Co. It appears that Teisco Industry Co. was responsible for producing hardware for all Kawai produced instruments.

In the mid 1970's, Kawai Instrument dissolved Teisco Business Affairs at the Enshu factory however Teisco brand guitars continued to be made until 1977.

Interestingly, Teisco Industry Co. and the Okegawa factory still operate today. They focus on the production of guitar hardware rather than actual guitars. Although the original Okegawa factory was demolished and replaced with a modern facility in 2002, I think we can still consider it a Teisco factory.

Well, as soon as I open my mouth I discover I'm wrong. Apparently someone in Japan is reissuing Teisco guitars under the Teisco brandname. I don't know if they have any association with the original Teisco company or not.

Does anyone know who produces these reissues? sb

That thing's pretty hot looking. Though the logo/headstock is kinda too modern looking.

Eastwood was either reissuing or importing these for a while.
