anybody heard of Efkay or Pyramid?

Hi!

I'm new to the forum, so I don't know if these have come up before.

In any event, during the 60s (yes the 60s) I played both bass and guitar in a top 40 band, and we all started with Efkay and Pyramid Japanese guitars and basses. Most of these were not very good quality, but some had redeeming qualities, and although my bass was a $67.00 dept. store special, I still liked it, and it sounded just fine pumped through my Ampeg amp (a "really early B15, with low power, and not yet a Portaflex).

Anybody having info. or photos to share on any of these, I'd really appreciate it.

Can't help you with photos, but it remains true that the mass producers of guitars can make fine guitars. Cort and Samick are like Ford, building Model T's. They don't cost much, but they make so many of them, they're really good at it.

Even First Act produces some very acceptable guitars for less than $200. In fact, there was a rock band that actually went in Wal-Mart, found a guitar they liked, and used it in their performances.

And probably any Jay Turser strat today is every bit as good as a 60's Fender. Or is that too sacreligious?
