What IS this?

I got this from an old timer who bought it in the '60s, let it collect dust until now, and sold it to me for $50. Has anyone seen something like this before?

Pretty generic looking,very inexpensive 60s amp.Judging from the tube array, it's probably 3-5 watts output,typical for those teeny little tube amps. There seems to be some lettering above the "Made In U.S.A., but I can't make it out. You might try removing the chassis and see if there's a label inside or some other identifying marks. There were a lot of companies back then churning out those little cheap amps. Does it work?
