I think you are right opotable, this is a harp amp. In fact, Hohner still makes a 5 watt harp amp today. The 1946 must refer to a model number. I'm thinking that number is possibly a reference to Jacob Hohner who died in 1946.

I can't read the description, but the amp has definitely been refurbished with some modern parts. I can't put a date on it but stylistically it looks 1960's to me.

These little guys can be great recording amps although they are definitely one trick ponies. But some of them have a really good trick.

well that's interesting, i never knew about the hoodoo amp!

i wonder how a guitar sounds thru' one of them, and whether it's possible to run it off 12 volts in my ol' vw camper.
i'm always on the lookout for something better than my VOX DA 5.

I know nothing about converting voltage from 110 to 12 volts but I'm sure it can be done. No doubt the amp will sound better than the 9 volt Smokey amp which is cheap and portable but definitely a "one trick pony".



9 volts lets you walk around at will, 12 volts ties you to a car battery. Life is a trade off

i never heard of them smokeys but i don't think it would be producing a very clean sound, i'm not a heavy metal freak.

They can clean up a good bit if you roll back the guitars volume knob but thats not really their thing. More of a classic rock crunch that sounds like a frying pan through a transistor radio through the built in speaker, not bad through a speaker cab.
