just called in my local bass place and he had a nice looking pink paisley precision (fairly new) which caught my eye..he wasn't sure how much it was but thought about £350..can any of you tell me if this is a decent price? they're japanese aren't they? got the old style tele headstock which i like...they have a new blue one in the local new guitar shop for £649

do you think £350 for one of these will be a better investment than £350 in a savings account? or my kitchen draw?

The Japanese made Pink Paisley Telecaster Bass isn't listed in my price guides but it looks like the old ones are going for $5,000 - $6,000. I think when originals start going for this money it tends to pull up the value of the reissues.

Of course, I don't know the U.K. market, but Japanese made Precision Basses are valued around $500 - $700 in the U.S. price guides. This makes the price for the Paisley look about right to me.

In general, I don't think basses are as good of an investment as guitars but a unique style like the Paisley might have reasonable appreciation as the originals become out of reach for most players.

Let us know what you decide to do. sb

went back today to have a closer look and the guy says the bloke selling it want £550 not £350...so that's my interest finished

i had the cash on me yesterday but if he'd sold me it yesterday for £350 I'd have felt obliged to return it as i'm a decent sort of chap

ah well..saves me a bit of grief at home i suppose

he has a nice Deusenberg in...but it's a left hander :( still cursing myself for not grabbing a Starplayer last summer that was going in a local shop for £375
