I found this interesting guitar at an estate sale. It came with a Magnatone Esteys tube amp. The person said their father bought it as a package when he was about 10 years old and has had it ever since. I cannot find any marks at all on this guitar.... It has a nice fat neck and plays surprisingly well. The amp sounds very cool too....

Here are some photos of the vintage guitar. Anybody have any ideas? Magnatone?

nice one, with those goldfoil pickups these certainly sound great.
i owned a audition with a pickup like that, that was an export name for kawai guitars for the UK, that also had a chrome scratchplate.
so looks a teisco/kawai produce to me, but every OEM name is possible with those old cheapo's even brandless were quite common.
has also some common features with some guyatones.

Anybody know where I can find a whammy bar for this old axe?

i have an old maxitone that has the same vibrato. (photos are on a different strain). the neck looks the same too. i went to a local music store that does repairs. they had a box of miscelaneus bars and i found one that fit. these are more of a vibrato unit than a whammy. i found it to be rather useless. the bar just makes it look cool.

I know this is an old thread.

A 'metric' strat arm will fit and works well, just looks funny.

I had one in the late 70's.
