Their earliest brochure is dated 1964 and lists Dynamic models 10 and greater. Since the models in my brochure are mostly single digit models I think I can safely assume my brochure is pre 1964.

I'll probably just label it "early 1960's" and call it good.

I think you know more about these instruments than any other English speaker on the planet sneaky. If you can offer any refinement to "early 1960's" it would be much appreciated. Do you think 1962 would be a reasonable year for attribution? When did Yamaha start the Dynamic series?

Just so you know, I have consulted the "History of Yamaha Guitars" book and it is pretty silent on the Dynamic series. The book doesn't get excited until the emergence of the GC series. My brochure does list the Hamamatsu factory as the place of manufacture and even includes an arial photo of the factory. What a nice shot of industrial smokestacks and bland buildings.

I`ve read 1952 as the year for Dynamic prototypes, and I`ve come to believe that Yamaha doesn`t mention them because they actually didn`t build them, seems their idea of Yamaha acoustic history begins with their FGs built in 1966. I`ve been told my 3 digit serial Dynami goes back to the early `50s, I have also seen 3 other Yamahas on line that evidently predated the Dynamics, by how many years is another Yamaha mystery, I didn`t bid on them because they weren`t in good condition. As far as I can tell, the labels with a lot of yellow were oldest on export models #30, 50 and 70, then came the black labels and of those I own #s 1 and 2 and 4, then the goldish labels used on the S series Dynamics...S-50 and S70, Yamaha first laminates, then the white with red border...however theres a #1 on line with that white/red label so I don`t think model number can be used to date them, labels are a safer bet along with the JIS mark.
In my Japan Vintage acoustic book vol.1 they have "act 1" as having models 1, 1B, 2, 4 and 8...along with the No. 45 which wasn`t a Dynamic but more of a classical looking model even though it has the fat Dynamic neck and not the flat wide neck seen on Yamahas a little later.
Whatever you call the brochure it`s an early one and people who collect those old Dynamics have become accustomed to guessing about them. Did you buy that catalog?

Yeah, I know this will make you crazy sneaky, but I bought it from a Canadian dealer for $10 and I was the sole bidder. He misspelled "catalog", in his auction, didn't even hit the UK spelling, maybe that helped.

It's just a case where the rest of the world has not caught up with Canadian sophistication. Please pardon our ignorance. In this case, "ignorance was bliss". I'm happy with my purchase.
