Matt you are looking in the right direction now as Vint pointed out at the start of this post I really cant think of any bands I know in all my years outside of a famous one where a guitarist had a double neck. Unless you are writing music that calls for it and are the only guitarist in your band there is no need for a double neck. Besides the quality of one does not equal the quality of a well made 12 string and the ax of your choosing. Besides I dont know if you ever played one but they are really uncomfortable. Just when you get one neck in a comfortable position the other is not. I saw G3 with Yngwie in NY and Vai opened the show with his triple neck while seated and when he stood up the strap broke and when the roadie came running to fix it he sent him off stage and dont ask me how he finished the song but he did. A manly man indeed .lol

Aside from JP using one with LZ, didn't John McLaughlin use one with Mahavishnu Orchestra?

Then there's the iconic Geddy Lee & Alex Lifeson BOTH using 'em (Lee's being a bass/guitar).

i can see both sides, double necks are HEAVY and the playing position changes for both necks. BUT..... i have one and have played a few gigs with it.(bass on top, guit on bottom) I have 2 things to say. 1.ouch 2. its soooo cool. i think people love to see double neck guitars.

Played a red gibson in the late 70's, high school dances - at least back then, it got some attention. I'd kind of like a guitar/mandolin combo... might be a little lighter, too.
