1956 Guyatone?

What do you think this late 50s Guyatone ? The owner says it is a prototype his dad bought in Tokyo in 1956.

i'm not qualified to say whether that guitar is a "prototype" or not but it obviously resembles closely an LG-50.

i've never had the nerve to take the covers off pup's on my LG but i wonder if single one on guitar we're talking about here is the same as ones typically found on LG's?

if so i bet that thing sounds very sweet.

edit - his asking price isn't unreasonable imo.

The early Antoria branded LG-50's that Hank Marvin and Johhny Byrne bought in the late 1950's had a zero fret and the dot inlays on the fretboard. I think the rectangle fret markers (SUPER thin, by the way - they basically wear off) came later.

My guess is that it's later, but who knows? I've got an early one with the zero fret and the dot inlays and it definitely feels older and more "primitive" than the one I used to own with the rectangle inlays and no zero fret.

It could still be a "one-off" at any rate. I've never seen that pickup on one of these.

All just conjecture, I guess... Pity you can't date these by the pot codes

the pickguard is very white, plus the screws are very shiny and shape is odd, and I haven't seen any Strat type pups on 50s Japanese gtrs...
