unknown guitar...nothing like ive ever seen

I picked this guitar up at the flea market a few years back, and want to fix it up, but have no idea what kind it is, or how old it is, or anything about it. there is no logo, whether it fell off or what else. if you cant tell from the picture, the pickups have little holes all over on the covers. i originally thought it could be a teisco, but i didnt see any with pickups like mine or with a body style like mine. does anyone have any idea what this could be? umm how do i post a picture?

ok well if i cant post a picture, the cutaway angles downward, and there are two pickups like i described above. and the tailpiece is a cheap looking vibrato tailpiece. and the pickup switches are those big white on/off switches next to each other. the neck has a zero fret, and the head is a smoothed out tele/strat style. the string retainer is a bar with a fairly steep angle. thanks.

The guitar certainly sounds like a 1960's Japanese model but without seeing it I can't tell you more that that.

Look at the 2nd topic at the top of the forum titled "Posting a Picture on the VintAxe Forum" for help in getting a picture added to your post. Good luck, it's easy once you get the hang of it. sb

to identify your guitar we need good pictures of the whole guitar, close up of the body and one of the headstock, the photo we see now is a crappy telephone/webcam picture.
without any good details in it.

granted - the pic isn't very good, but there are some clues - looks like it might be a Sovier guitar - that pickup looks familiar! It's like a quiz - can you ID this guitar from one pickup.

ok, I''m going to try to borrow a digital camera so i can actually post good pictures of it. but ive never heard of a sovier, and when i searched on google, there was nothing on it. what is a sovier?

I've taken a look and I don't see anything on Cheesy that matches your instrument. I certainly require better pictures to be much help here. sb

The pickups look like they could be from a Galanti which where made in Italy.

That there is a c. 1966 Intermark Cipher. Real distinctive pickup and switches that were theirs exclusively, plus the 3-D brushed aluminum pickguard panel overlay a la Teisco.

Those are nice guitars, as far as 60's Japanese models go. Quality hardware, solid (not plywood) bodies. Sunburst is common, a solid color would have been even more cool. Good luck with it.
