please help identify this mystery bass...

This thing has been painted and re-painted countless times in its life, and is now going under another restoration. Curious though if anyone here can identify what this is. Im hoping that the unusual upper strap horn will be a giveaway. Forwhatever its worth, the jazz pickup is an add on. Looks like there used to be some kind of humbucker in there originally. Also, there are two holes drilled for a lower finger rest. Thanks guys!

I'm still an amateur at identifying guitars but have you tried removing the neck? Sometimes there is a serial number or a date of birth on the neck when you remove it and look under neither.....

Have you see the Klira bass posted in the European Guitars thread. I haven't done a close comparison yet, but your bass looks similar to the red Klira. That narrow neckplate looks German to me.

That looks like a Magnatone Hurricane bass from the mid-60's. USA made. It's been modified, but may be worth restoring.

Good eye Big Beat, it is a Magnatone Hurricane. I knew I had seen that headstock but I just couldn't place it.

Your bass is pictured in the 1965 Magnatone catalog in the Electric Guitar section fuhz.
