Next project Guyatone from the ground up

Still waiting for my latest purchase to arrive. Again I need your help in identfying this puppy.

From the photos it appears she is mostly there. I am planning a complete paint restoration. Instead of the usual sunburst scheme, I would like to do a historical accurate solid color. Any ideas from the forum members? Also as you can see she has only 2 mismatched pickups,so I am also looking for ideas on what might be the best vintage pickups to drop in this puppy. As far the pickups are concerned , I am more concerned with the sound (blues vibe)as opposed to be completely historically accurate.
Any of your thoughts would be greatly appreciated

SSR, Thanks for the photo, you may have answered a question for me, it appears your guitar's pickups have different size pole pieces just like mine. I thought one could be a replacemnt, but I guess they both could be original.

If you want to go to a solid color, the best is a natural white or black. Metallic colors such as lite blue, red, and gold were around then as well. If it is a total restoration, sunburst is the way to go. You will need to chem/strip the body making sure you do not sand off the top veneer , redo the filler around the sides to hide the laminations, and have a professional airbrush the sunburst. Clear the body with 3 coats to protect it I hope this is helpful. I will be posting more pix of the guitars on my page from time to time. Take care...8)

SSR, Thanks I missed the catalog the first time. Thats the guitar alright.
I appreciate your input on the colors. Because of the body condition and since the pickguards and electronics obscure most of the body anyways I think a solid color is the way to go. I thnk a lite metallic blue would be great, but I don't want to fool with the bronzing powders. A slightly yellowed white might go good with all the white plastics on the guitar. Do you know if the Guyatone palatte of colors similar to Teicscos ?

the one constant thing back in the 60s is that the Japanese manufactures would try to out do one another. At the present time, there is no definitive color chart for the Guyatone brand that I am aware of and to say the colors used by Teisco are the same would be a lie... Even if you go with a color you see on a guitar posted on a web page, there could be variations to the hue from one camera to another and lighting has a lot to do with color clarity. The aged white is the best choice but the LT Blue Metallic will look so cool as long as the body repair and prep is done properly. Just keep in mind that the neck was always natural in color when the body was painted in a solid color. It's your Axe! Make it the way you want!

SSR, Thanks again for your input, I been planning on painting the neck the same as the body , as I have seen so many Teiscos that way.But now I will rethink that. I had been looking at getting a different neck anyways. Anybody got one?
Your right you can't beat that light metallic blue. I guess Cresent Bronze is the source for the metallic base colors . I guess we would be looking at a silver base. Do you have any idea what to use over the top?

Duplicolor auto lacquer has many great colors and you do not need to go nuts, Pep boys, Advanced auto, Auto zone has it. A good primer sealer/filler and some 600 grit paper for the prep with compressed air to stop the build up on the paper. Tack rag before painting. 2 light coats, 1/2 hr between coats than 1 a little heavier. 24 hrs to dry than wet sand with 800 grit. Keep the paper damp with a spray bottle. do not soak. finish with 2 coats of clear and if you need to wet sand and buff, use 3 clear. Wait 72 hrs. Wet sand on top of old towels to absorb the water runoff. buff and assemble.

SSR, Thanks for your suggestion, your suggestion makes alotta sense. After seeing the prices in the Stewart MacDonald Catalog to get set up with Nitrocellouse Lacquer,and finding nothing at Sherwin Williams , I am thinking a simpler approach might be the ticket. I gathered ffrom your photo bucket that you have been in the auto painting business. I still might try to set myself in Nitro for a ccuple touch-ups jobs that I need to do.
Because of that, your Strat project caught eye and I thought maybe you could answer a question for me. If you got a guitar with light scratches , that don't go down to the color, can you acheive good results by wet sanding followed by a thinned down flow coat to blend into the existing
lacquer?
