Actually, my understanding is that you know something is reversed when it hums when touched and not when it's not being touched. The more common problem, and the one that bergenwoods described, is that it hums when not touched That would suggest that the bridge needs to be connected to ground to me. I'm not an expert but I've fixed guitars that have the reversed wires at the output jack problem before.

What you describe does indeed sound like the wires to the output jack are wired in reverse.This will produce a very loud humming,far louder then just having a bad bridge ground connection. Definately try reversing the output jack wiring.
