 The First Japanese Solid Body Electric Guitar in 1954.

It's Teisco TG54/TN54. They built this model based on the Les Paul Goldtop back then. The two models are the same guitar, only the colors were different. TG54 was gold and TN54 was natural. Of course no info is available today that how many were built in fact but they are extremely rare now. This is really the historic piece of the guitar world. We must not forget about this model like the first Fender Broadcaster from 1948.

1954---The first solid body Teisco electric guitars were produced - the J-1, J-2, TG-54 and TN-54 - which copied the popular Les Paul design of that year. http://www.mark-cole.co.uk/teisco/

WOW! Never saw one of those beauties

VintageJoe, I can't make out the headstock badge - does it say TEISCO?

Or were they marketed under a different name?

To put this guitar in context, keep in mind that the war was only 9 years in the past. It had only been 2 years since the American occupation and control had ended. The nation was slowly digging out from war damage and the heavy burden of wounded veterans. It was a sad and yet miraculous time, when the entrepreneurial spirit flared publicly.

It IS a beauty!
The asymmetric pick guard is very 50's, in a way I haven't seen on a guitar(but then I haven't seen much. Is it stylistically a copy?
